  Investment Objective & Strategy
The investment seeks capital appreciation.
Normally, the portfolio invests at least 80% of its total assets in equity securities of mid-size companies. It may invest up to 25% of its total assets in securities of non-U.S. issuers. The portfolio will not invest more than 5% of its total assets in the securities of emerging markets issuers. It may invest up to 20% of its net assets in REITs. The portfolio may invest up to 20% of its total assets in debt securities. It may invest up to 5% of its net assets in below investment grade debt securities (known as "junk bonds"), including below investment grade convertible debt securities.
  Morningstar Category: Mid-Cap Value
Some mid-cap value portfolios focus on medium-size companies while others land here because they own a mix of small-, mid-, and large-cap stocks. All look for U.S. stocks that are less expensive or growing more slowly than the market. Stocks in the middle 20% of the capitalization of the U.S. equity market are defined as mid-cap. Value is defined based on low valuations (low price ratios and high dividend yields) and slow growth (low growth rates for earnings, sales, book value, and cash flow).
  Investment Risks
Mid Cap Funds: The securities of companies with market capitalizations below $10 billion may be more volatile and less liquid than the securities of larger companies.
